Rooted in Tradition, Growing for the Future
For over seventy-five years, Gaylord Farm has been a cornerstone of the Mad River Valley. What began as a small dairy operation in 1948 has grown into a diverse family farm producing vegetables, meats, flowers, and honey. With each generation, our family has carried forward a commitment to sustainability, community, and clean food. The story of Gaylord Farm is one of tradition, resilience, and deep roots in Vermont's farmland.
A Farm Takes Root
In 1948, Hadley Gaylord Sr. purchased the farm with a dream of raising food that would sustain his family and community. In those early years, the farm focused on corn and dairy, taking advantage of the fertile Mad River Valley soils and a strong tradition of local farming. His hard work and vision laid the foundation for generations to come.

Transition from Dairy to Diversity
As farming needs and opportunities changed, the second generation of Gaylords moved the farm away from dairy. They introduced beef cattle, pigs, and chickens, shaping the diverse farm we know today. Each transition came with challenges, but also with innovation and resilience, always guided by the family's connection to the land.

Carrying the Tradition Forward
Today, the farm is run by Hadley Gaylord Jr. and his son Brendan, with lots of support from other family members. Together, they raise beef cattle, pigs, laying hens, turkeys, and honey bees, while also growing a wide variety of organic vegetables. Brendan's young daughter represents the fourth generation — already learning to care for animals and plants, and carrying forward the values her great-grandfather began.

Commitment to Clean Food
From 2013 to 2024, Gaylord Farm proudly held organic certification. Although this certification has concluded, our dedication to sustainable practices remains unwavering: we use no chemicals, hormones, or shortcuts. Currently, our farm consists of over 650 acres of land, care for more than 250 cattle and 100 pigs, and provide an array of fresh produce and meats to our local community.
